So I'm against the moritorium but MC is for it. She thinks none of 'em know what they are doing at these depths. She's usually right. But I think this is pretty much BPs F'up and the people who regulated it dropped the ball. LA as does the USA needs the jobs. And we need the gas.

Do your best to...

1. Shop local - surf shop, food, ect. - let your money do the talkin' and think before you buy.

2. Be nice to animals, if you hurt one help it, if you kill one eat it.

3. Help the environment, but don't kook out or be a hypocrite. However, if that's how you roll, focus on #1 and #2 if possible.

4. As with camping, leave little tracks. Go with nature whenever possible. You're nature too, but see #2 - have respect.

5. If you're not local act like one - "love where you're at", respect others. Help others, feels good too.

Think I lost this one too... This is supposed to be about a healthy Gulf, sounding like some self help thing. See next Post.

A pod for the Gulf.

I'm creating a Pod of surf shops, surfers, and "water people". Been struggling with "exactly" what to stand for... Let's figure on the basic ends of what the Pod whats.

Clean water(within reason), conduct friendly to animals(within reason) and supporting the people and businesses which survive off the Gulf, right?

Basically, I don't want to get sick or a rash after getting in the water. What to treat all animals and fish nice, before I eat some of them. The Pod (named after a group of Pelicans). Don't eat them just what 'em happy, playing in the gulf like us. Support Business - first off - easy ones like your local surf shops, local restaurants (local seafood!), fishermen & women... and this one may hit a bump but the oil industry, yes I said it. We use it, we need it, don't be a hypocrite.

Granted N.O. Surf Shop is the runt of surf shops in the Gulf. And I think the only one in LA. (And Los Angeles please stop calling yourself LA it's L.A.) Our shop has suffer so many Californians - ugh - C'mon, you what you're like. If you haven't been to our shop, imagine yourself, "a Californian" (note the quotes), coming into the surf shop in New Orleans, Louisiana and the things you'd say those who are working the shop. Imagine... Okay other Gulf Surf Shops may suffer this too but they can't to our scale unless maybe in Houston or something like that. Gulf states we are our own country here - let's be real. Sure we're all "united" but ehhhhh - they(states) don't act like us. And as for Louisiana - well in my opinion we're even foreign for Gulf states but y'all like to party here, so we are all good.

The horror, the horror, the horror...
Keep trying to be both pro business here and pro our waters. And by business I do mean oil but so many days of this, so much damage, so little trust. "For now" we use oil, we need it to maintain things, and with so many people it's what they do here - oil. But this is such a mess with no end in sight. Since we're a surf shop - some want me to protest. But what? End oil drilling? So many people depend on that, hard working people. And we are all still filling up, right? Yes, I'm totally for an alternative positive environmental power source (let's do it!). But for some damn reason it's easier to get a job when your still employed.
I've surfed all over LA - with bio hazard signs that had little to do with oil in the water, but RUN OFF. Sure some of that's oil, but mainly other nasty shit. And the DEAD ZONE has been out there with little fan fair for some time...
But not our pelicans dripping with oil. The worse is seeing our wildlife helpless to our ugliness. A horror we've allowed. The shame, the shame... What would my protest sign be? Maybe a mirror.

And what we really want here - not so easy.

One is easy, seal the leak. Everyone wants that. Next, cleaned it up - out of the gulf waters, off our wildlife, and off our beaches, marshes. Agreed . Both these are easy ends. How to do it? And the fact that drilling is a must for the now and short term future. Seriously. And getting all PC on it is hypocritical and naive. We run on oil. And saying not me is fine - there are men and women here who will feed the babies who want the meat but are too weak to kill the animal. Louisiana feeds 30% of the country's oil wants. AND we don't the 50% profit like other states. That's total BS and it needs to change. But the babies are in charge (Feds) and unless a Louisiana politician has the "balls" to shut this down, we'll keep begging the Feds for our fair share. WTF! If the oil doesn't destroy Louisiana the moratorium will. We at least have/had oil jobs... no fishing, no oil! Like we don't know what to do is more BS. Get out of our way and let us govern ourselves. Thanks Obama if BP doesn't take us out the moratorium will. And that's not a pro republican dig 'cause they ain't stepping up either. Finally, how about a real leader - one who is willing to fight for this great state. Agreed?

So I was reading on the SurfRider page. & I see their Ts which say like no drilling in NC or no drilling in FL. Okay, but we all need oil right? We all use it. We are an oil based economy - it doesn't just run our cars, it's in all kinds of products stuff we use everyday. It's pretty damn easy to say not in my backyard when everybody is using the resource. You want it, but its ugly and I don't want to deal with it, but keep it coming... package it pretty and keep the price low. Let Louisiana deal with it. But Oil is bad, slap a slogan(typically oil based) on tee, say Oil is "blank", go fill up your car and drive away into the sunset. We clearly need to change but most of what I hear is rhetoric (kind of like this blog). What the hell is the plan? Oil will eventually run out and not because of this leak, it is a finite natural resource, right... so what's next?

Just back friday from Paradise Inn in Pensacola. Great times, fun surf, beautiful water... saw no oil whole time - fingers crossed they stay that way. Saw a lot of oil on news there - but i didn't see it in water or beach.

No more ships up the Mississippi. It will change everything. Yes.

It's how it used to be and how it will end up - given enough time.

We need to adapted to the environment. These Levees are destroying Louisiana not protecting it.

Take down the Levees. We can all adapt together with the money from the Secede LA revenue. Raise homes, etc. - okay they'll be a lot of etc.

Louisiana needs to take a trial separation from the States. The oil thing has been messed up way before BP. And our government needs to give us - no we need to take what's ours. Our Louisiana government needs to cowboy up here, go old school. 37 % in '17 - b.s.! NO now and add at least another 13% to that or no damn deal. 'come on LA, this is crazy. This place is rich, RICH, and we just take it - what the f? We don't fit in anyway, face it. We can take care of our own with our own money, namely oil & gas, insure ourselves too. We take the risk. We should be judging who's doing right and wrong here, an' pull business permits if someone is messing up like clearly BP was... lower the taxes too. & put the fishermen in charge - somebody who actually does something, those who cares about the land, water and the people who live here. At the very least, somebody needs put on a good poker face and threaten to secede. 'Cause this is wrong. Stand up LA...

Aloha all. Go look at your boardshorts, check out those walkshorts, look at your sandals, traction pad, yeah the leash too... the skate shoes, your slip-ons, the Cons too?! They don't surf. Somebody must be, they got too much coast. People seem cool there like anywhere but the government sucks. The pay sucks. The freedoms suck. Not sure if they can even buy "our" stuff - that they make. The (gov) targets our industry textile, plastics, seafood... give "sweet-heart" deals to "our" businesses. But you don't have to be in economics (forget the morals) to see this don't work. Sending so much money to them and them not sending any back. Sending all our manufacturing (jobs) overseas... China is the worst too me in stance against "our" country, freedoms, etc., mainly cause they got lots of money from US. We're the shoppers. Friends don't treat ya like that plus they abusive their own.

China, we need to talk... it's not you, it's me. I just don't want to do this anymore, I feel wrong... cheap. You understand, right? You don't even like surfing, skating...
